As the only major for the juveniles run in Victoria, the Blue Diamond Stakes is annually a critical race for the racing and breeding industry. The Blue Diamond Stakes was first run in 1971 so is younger than the Golden Slipper but still has so many brilliant winners including REDOUTE’S CHOICE, BEL ESPRIT, ALINGHI, SEPOY and EXTREME CHOICE. Last year’s Blue Diamond Stakes champion LITTLE BROSE has been sent to Hong Kong. In many ways the impact on the breeding scene has been even more significant.
Clinton McDonald became the third generation of his family to train a Blue Diamond Stakes winner when his filly HAYASUGI steamed to home to win the G1 race for 2YOs at Caulfield. The victory was also a landmark moment for Jamie Kah who became only the second female to jockey to win the time-honoured race.

Blue Diamond Stakes Results
HAYASUGI completed a clean sweep of the Blue Diamond series after taking out both the preview and the prelude for the fillies in the lead-up to Saturday’s race. Her sex filled the trifecta with favourite LADY OF CAMELOT second after looking a likely winner in the home straight and KUROYANAGI third. HAYASUGI will now head to Sydney with the Golden Slipper as her target.
