The Championships have become bigger each year and the Queen Elizabeth Stakes on Day 2 is at the heart of that. Since the huge prizemoney increase a decade ago, only the best have gone around.
Nothing can be better than when WINX ended her extraordinary career in 2019 in front of a packed Randwick and brought many a hardened racing folk to tears. Her achievements will be long remembered as will the efforts of those close to her especially Chris Waller and Hugh Bowman.
But then the race transformed once more with the addition of strong Northern Hemisphere participation and William Haggas has to be congratulated for seeing an opportunity firstly with his warrior ADDEYBB. He did it twice and then he sent DUBAI HONOUR south to emulate his older stablemate.
PRIDE OF JENNI annihilates her rivals to win the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick on 13th April 2024, Saturday. Expected to set a genuine tempo over the 2000m for her Queen Elizabeth rivals, no one anticipated the mare to lead them by some 30 lengths when entering the straight. With Declan Bates pushing to the centre of the track, it never once looked like getting caught when making the final sprint for home, romping to the line with a historic 6.5L margin back to race-favourite VIA SISTINA in second, from MR BRIGHTSIDE holding off Australian Cup winner CASCADIAN for third. PRIDE OF JENNI’s breathtaking win is her third success at the highest level, and it also brought up Ciaron Maher’s second Group 1 win of Day 2 of The Championships after winning the Sydney Cup with CIRCLE OF FIRE.Queen Elizabeth Stakes Day (13 Apr 2024)
