The only G1 Open Age WFA race on the Australian turf that is over the 2400m classic distance is the Tancred Stakes and Rosehill has been witness to some of the grandest contests.
Also, The 1500m G3 Doncaster Prelude is a big pointer to the Doncaster Mile on 6 Apr.
Ranvet Stakes - The Group to look at
The Ranvet Stakes and the Australian Cup were used to be the popular lead-up for the Tancred Stakes. With the reschedule of Ranvet Stakes to the week before and the Australian Cup in Melbourne to the same day as the Australian Cup this year, some past performances may not be as appropriate as before. However, AVILIUS, VERRY ELLEEGANT and SIR DRAGONET have done well in both the Ranvet Stakes and the Tancred Stakes after the reschedule, Ranvet Stakes on 23rd March is still the race to look at.
Favoured tends to perform better
Favoured chances are highly successful in the Tancred Stakes. ARAPAHO’s win last year at was the only double figure priced winner since 2011. In fact, SIR DRAGONET was the winner with longest price (winning odds: 5.5) in that time.
Possible Big Players
MORE FELONS has already shown his worth racing in the Southern Hemisphere. After finishing 8th in the Ebor at York, he went to Chris Waller and was close in the G3 Geelong Cup, a very decent midfield in the G1 Melbourne Cup before spelling and resuming with a win here at Rosehill in the Listed Parramatta Cup. He could be a big player in the Tancred Stakes.
