Despite the Tancred Stakes not being as old as many other major WFA races, it has been won by many of the elite. Given how few of top level races are run at 2400m the Tancred holds an important place each season.
Both elites - OCTAGONAL and MIGHT AND POWER won this race.

The Kris Lees-trained KALAPOUR has shocked World Pool punters to take out the 2024 G1 Tancred Stakes over 2400m.
Unwanted in betting when sent out $55 on the World Pool tote, jockey Dylan Gibbons managed the 7YO perfectly, hitting the front inside the final 100m and digging deep to hold off the fast finishing MORE FELONS (0.2L), with ASHRUN rounding out the placings (1.6L).
English stayer and race favourite POST IMPRESSIONIST saw plenty of support on the World Pool, jumping $1.90 on the tote, but was unable to live up to expectation, tailed 6.3L off at the rear of the field.
The win was trainer Kris Lees’s first success in the race and hallmarked the young jockey’s second success at the highest level, after scoring aboard EXPLOSIVE JACK in the 2023 Sydney Cup.
