It is generally the Caulfield lead up races including the 1000m Blue Diamond Previews or the 1100m Blue Diamond Preludes that provide the form for the Blue Diamond Stakes. In the recent decade, the Blue Diamond Preludes become the hottest pathway for the Blue Diamond Stakes. Eight out of the last ten winners of the 2YO G1 came from the either the Blue Diamond Prelude - Colts and Geldings (5 times) and the Blue Diamond Prelude – Fillies (3 times), and they all finished top three there. STAY FOCUSED, the runner-up in the Blue Diamond Prelude - Colts and Geldings, as well as HAYASUGI, champion of Blue Diamond Prelude – Fillies, are all the potentials.

The Freedman family has always been a major player in the Blue Diamond Stakes, producing three winners in the Blue Diamond Stakes for the last five years. MATISSE, who finished third after HAYASUGI in the Blue Diamond Prelude – Fillies, will represent the Freedman stable this year.
