Jim Crowley is the only jockey to have won this twice in recent years but both came aboard BATTAASH, owned by his retainer shadwell, and they do not have an entry this year. He will ride FROST AT DAWN. Daniel Tudhope has been placed twice, as has Hollie Doyle (in the last two years), and she looks the jockey to concentrate on as she again rides last year’s third BRADSELL.

Past Winners

Named after an area of York, the Nunthorpe Stakes, showpiece of Day 3 of the York’s Ebor Festival was established in 1903 as a low-grade selling race and promoted to G1 in 1984. It is one of the rare chances that 2YO can compete against the older generations though only KINGSGATE NATIVE stood out from the fierce competition in 2007 in the past 30 renewals. Well known as “a dash”, however, dark horses sometimes may bring unexpected victories in this sprint event. In 2018, ALPHA DELPHINI won at long odds at 40-1. Therefore, outsiders can cause danger and should not be ruled out.
