Chinese New Year Raceday combines sport and entertainment as Hong Kong’s fabulous Year of the Snake celebration

The 2025 Chinese New Year Raceday, one of the most entertaining festival activities and popular racedays in Hong Kong, will be held at Sha Tin Racecourse on Friday, 31 January, the third day of Chinese New Year.

The Chinese New Year Raceday celebrates the Year of the Snake with Hong Kong's world-class horse racing and spectacular trackside entertainment for local and tourists’ enjoyment. The event will kick off with a Variety Show featuring renowned singer Hins Cheung, followed by 11 thrilling races, including three of Hong Kong’s most prestigious contests: the Hong Kong Class Mile, Centenary Vase and Chinese New Year Cup. Additionally, to usher in the Year of the Snake, The Hong Kong Jockey Club will offer a minimum of HK$228 million in prizes during the first month of Chinese New Year, including the special jackpots for The Chinese New Year Raceday.+ Visitors to Hong Kong, upon showing a valid travel document, can enter the Public Enclosure of both racecourses free of charge.#

The 11-race programme commences at 12.30pm. Gates at both racecourses open at 10.30am. All Sha Tin and Happy Valley Racecourse entrants will receive a designated Windmill Fortune Pen* before 3.30pm, or while stocks last. Sha Tin Racecourse entrants can participate in the “STRC Delights - Chinese New Year Lucky Draw ”^by scanning the QR code on the Windmill Fortune Pen, offering racegoers 888 prizes of designated pure gold or gold-plated ornaments. The three grand prize winners will win a designated pure gold ingot.

Variety Show and Ceremony
The Chinese New Year Raceday Variety Show begins at 11.15am in the Sha Tin Parade Ring. Renowned singer Hins Cheung is returning to Sha Tin at the Variety Show to perform festive songs and usher in a prosperous Chinese New Year. Feng Shui Master Mak Ling Ling will be sharing New Year fortune tips with racegoers. The jockeys will also be on hand to extend Chinese New Year greetings@. The afternoon features three thrilling major races to start the Year of the Snake:

  • HK$13 million Hong Kong Classic Mile (1600m)
  • HK$4.2 million G3 Centenary Vase Handicap (1800m)
  • HK$2.84 million Class 2 Chinese New Year Cup Handicap (1400m)

At least HK$228 million Chinese New Year Mega Prize pot
The Triple Trio’s estimated dividend for a single HK$10 winning unit could reach HK$18 million for the Chinese New Year Raceday. The Quartet & First 4 Merged Pool will also be topped up with a HK$2.8 million jackpot. Additionally, more jackpots will be added to the remaining seven local race meetings in the first month of Chinese New Year. As well as experiencing the thrill of Hong Kong’s horse racing, racegoers can also enjoy a day filled with on-course entertainment and exquisite culinary offerings at Sha Tin. Highlights include:

  • New-generation band Nowhere Boys bring live music in between races in the Public Betting Hall beneath Mezza One.
  • Public Forecourt features a Feng Shui Avenue where giant windmills and festive peach blossoms will create a stunning backdrop, symbolising luck and Fortune.
  • The Hong Kong Jockey Club will participate in the International Chinese New Year Night Parade on the first day of Chinese New Year, with the theme “In Motion. With You” and features 140 pinwheels. After the Parade, the float will be on display at the Chinese New Year Raceday at Sha Tin Racecourse.
  • A delightful selection of new year culinary delights will be offered at Sha Tin’s Public Betting Hall Kiosk 2 and Mezza One.
  • A free shuttle bus service from Wong Tai Sin (near MTR Station Exit D) and Che Kung Temple (near Tai Wai MTR Station) to Sha Tin Racecourse, will be provided on 31 January, from 10.00am to 2:30pm. For shuttle bus schedule of each location, please visit the Chinese New Year Raceday theme site.
