LONGINES Hong Kong Vase – Post-race jockey/trainer quotes

1st: WIN MARILYN – Damian Lane
“She travelled sweetly. You can ride her wherever you want and I was happy to take a sit because I knew with her turn of foot she could finish over them. There was a little sense of relief I suppose, I’ve had a few goes here with no success. I think the 2400m really suits her and the horse who beat her the other day (Geraldina) was something special so I was confident that Win Marilyn could hold her form today. It’s a privilege to be a part of Japanese racing and getting on these horses.”
2nd: BOTANIK – William Buick
“His run was great. It was competitive early, but I wanted to go forward. A couple worked up outside me but he still relaxed and he ran very well. He stays all day and I think he will be a lovely stayer for next year.”
3rd: GLORY VASE – Joao Moreira
“He went alright, he did his best. His condition was as good as it could be but with his age and younger horses coming up – I’m proud of what he has done.”
4th: PANFIELD – Karis Teetan
“He ran well against these strong horses. We’re just need him to bring a bit of form to these races but I thought he ran very good. We’re all happy with the run.”
5th: STONE AGE – Aidan O’Brien
“They both ran okay, Stone Age might have preferred a stronger gallop and you could probably say the same for Broome.”
6th: BUBBLE GIFT – Christophe Lemaire
“As usual he was slow from the gates and I had to let him find his rhythm. We gained a position going forward with the three-wide trail and he was tracking well but struggled in the last 100m. It’s been a long season.”
7th: SENOR TOBA – Vincent Ho
“I wanted to go forward but eventually there was no pace so I didn’t mind to lead. I expected him to be better with the second horse picking up off the home turn but he was pretty one-paced. He just kept a similar speed in the straight, he just couldn’t quicken. I’m a little bit disappointed, maybe he’s not this class.”
8th: BROOME – Yutaka Take
“His start was slow as always but somehow he got up to a decent position. However, he is a one-pace kind of horse, so it didn’t work out.”
9th: BUTTERFIELD – Silvestre de Sousa
“He wasn’t good enough.”
Took no part: MENDOCINO – Rene Piechulek
“I just don’t know what happened, he’s never done it before. He was quiet and relaxed beforehand. Once the gate opened, twice I tried to get him going but he just wouldn’t.”
