Five horses were taken out of the Derby Stakes at the second entry stage but two were added to the Epsom contest, including Ballysax Stakes winner DALLAS STAR.

Now trained by Adrian Murray in Ireland, the CLOTH OF STARS colt produced a career best in Leopardstown’s early-season Derby trial when a surprise winner on debut for his new handler.

The Amo Racing owned runner also holds an entry for the Curragh’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby but connections paid £12,000 to give him the option of the English Classic.

“It’s unbelievable and the last day he was very good and has to deserve his chance for going at something like the Derby, so it’s an exciting time,” said Murray.

“He’s done very well since his race and we’re very, very happy with him, he’s progressing nicely. I don’t know if he will run again before the Derby and I’ll have a chat with Kia [Joorabchian, owner] and Robson [Aguiar] and see what they think. Kia is the owner at the end of the day and the main thing is we have him in the Derby, that’s his main target. He’s all class and a lovely horse.”

Charlie Appleby’s HIDDEN LAW was the other horse added to the field following an impressive victory at Newbury.

The five scratchings included three internationally trained runners leaving Andre Fabre’s ROADSHOW as the only French-trained entrant among the 69 that remain in the race.
