British Classic Series
“The thoroughbred exists because its selection has depended, not on experts, technicians or zoologists, but on a piece of wood: the winning post of the Epsom Derby,” said Federico Tesio.
Run over 2405m at Epsom in June; the most prestigious of the Classics was first run in 1780 – four years later than the first St. Leger Stakes which is the final leg of the Triple Crown. The Rowley Mile course at Newmarket hosts the 2000 Guineas and 1000 Guineas, both run over a straight 1600m. The 2000 Guineas was established in 1809 and the 1000 Guineas in 1814. All four races as mentioned, together with the Oaks, constitute “The English Classics”, and is still the backbone of the British Flat season to this day.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club will simulcast 2000 Guineas Day (4 May), 1000 Guineas (5 May) and Derby Stakes Day (1 Jun) for the 2024 British Classic Racing.
World Pool will be offered for all aforementioned races. By gathering bets from different countries or regions, it adds liquidity, stability and smaller fluctuations in odds.
