The HK$13 million Hong Kong Classic Mile is typically a fierce contest, as was the case in 2022 when the first two places were captured by Hong Kong International Sale graduates Romantic Warrior and California Spangle, trained by Danny Shum and Tony Cruz, respectively.

Last year the Mark Newnham-trained My Wish won the Hong Kong Classic Mile in style with jockey Luke Ferraris. This is the first and shortest race in the Four-Year-Old Classic Series. Owners and trainers alike are keen to see their horses prove successful in the hope of sealing a coveted place in the BMW Hong Kong Derby.

Many a superstar-to-be has contested and won the Hong Kong Classic Mile. Golden Sixty, Beauty Flash, Lucky Nine, Able Friend, Rapper Dragon, Beauty Only, Romantic Warrior and Voyage Bubble are just several of the race’s past champions.
