Sha Tin hosts 149th BMW Hong Kong Derby, with MC Cheung returning to mark Year of the Horse highlight

As one of the highlights of The Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Year of the Horse campaign, the HK$26 million BMW Hong Kong Derby (2000m) (Photo 1) will be run and won this Sunday (22 March) at Sha Tin Racecourse, offering once-in-a-lifetime glory to Hong Kong’s rising stars. As the pinnacle of the Four-Year-Old Classic Series, the BMW Hong Kong Derby is one of the great sporting events and attractions in the city for both racing fans in Hong Kong and from around the world.

Admission to Sha Tin and Happy Valley Racecourses will commence at 11am with the first race scheduled for 1pm. All entrants will receive a designated Derby Cap* before 3.30pm, or while stocks last. (Photo 2)

This year’s race is headlined by HK$13 million Hong Kong Classic Mile (1600m) winner Little Paradise and HK$13 million Hong Kong Classic Cup (1800m) triumphant Stormy Grove, winners of the first two legs of the Four-Year-Old Classic Series, along with 12 other emerging stars. First run in 1873, the Hong Kong Derby has a proud history having been won by champions Golden Sixty (2020), Romantic Warrior (2022) and Voyage Bubble (2023) in recent years.

Carry forward Year of the Horse fortune in the Golden Lucky Draw
Simply scan the QR code on the Derby Cap admission gift or any designated QR code on site to complete registration by 3.30pm and join the “2026 BMW Hong Kong Derby – Year of the Horse Golden Lucky Draw”@ with a chance to win the grand prize – a designated “Harmonious Horse” Gold Bar Set worth approx. Derby Challenge
Participants may register for the Derby Challenge competition between 11.00am and 2.00pm underneath Mezza One at Sha Tin. Each participant will have one minute to answer as many questions as possible. The top six participants with the best results will each receive a designated preliminary prize and advance to the final round at 3.10pm, held at the Tipster Forum. Six finalists will compete in a live buzzer‑quiz challenge, testing their reaction speed and racing knowledge, for a chance to win designated vouchers worth a total of HK$30,000. (Photo 5)
