Justin Snaith has a good record in the Cape Town Met Day.

When it comes to training winners on Cape Town Met Day, in recent years there is nobody hotter than Justin Snaith. While he has only won the Cape Town Met twice, OH SUSANNA in 2018 and last year with JET DARK, he seldom goes home without having trained multiple winners on the day. His best performance came in 2016 when he trained eight winners, including the first six on the card.

Last year he had four wins, including the Cape Town Met, and on average, he comes away with at least four victories. Obviously, that means whoever rides for him has an advantage over their rivals and this year that role is taken up by Grant van Niekerk. However, Snaith usually has multiple runners in the field and the other jockeys he uses include Richard Fourie, J P van der Merwe and Muzi Yeni.

Brett Crawford has also had a lot of success on the day and has trained three Cape Town Met winners. He uses multiple jockeys but of late Kabelo Matsunyane and Luyolo Mxothwa have been his top choices.

Candice Bass-Robinson has had a lot of success lately and she seems to have some potent runners in her yard. While Aldo Domeyer is her No. 1 jockey, he rides off a minimum weight of 128lbs so Bass-Robinson has given the lighter weight rides to Gareth Wright and Anthony Andrews.

Richard Fourie leads the jockeys’ ranking in South Africa.

Of the visitors, Sean Tarry and Mike de Kock are always contenders on big days.

No question that Richard Fourie, who leads the jockeys ranking in South Africa, is the most sought-after rider, but also keep an eye on Gavin Lerena, Bernard Fayd’Herbe and Piere Strydom. Both are more selective with their rides but are incredibly effective in big races. Strydom, particularly, is worth noting because he will be riding Cape Town Met hot favourite SEE IT AGAIN.
