Chinese New Year Raceday at Sha Tin to celebrate Year of the Dragon

The Chinese New Year Raceday (Photo 1) will be held at Sha Tin Racecourse on Monday, 12 February, the third day of Chinese New Year, and will mark the Year of the Dragon with spectacular horse racing and on-course activities. Racing fans* will receive a designated “Fortune Pen” and have a chance to win a designated 24k gold foil ornament#.
There will be an electrifying variety show and traditional lion dance before the races commence, as well as a range of other on-course activities throughout the afternoon.
Up to HK$138 million mega prize to celebrate Chinese New Year
A total of up to HK$138 million (Photo 2) will be on offer to celebrate Chinese New Year.
The Triple Trio jackpot will be topped up to HK$11 million from the Jackpot Reserve for the Chinese New Year Raceday, the estimated dividend for a single HK$10 winning unit could reach HK$18 million. The Quartet & First 4 Merged Pool will also be topped up for Race 7 and Race 11, with a HK$1 million jackpot allocated to each race.
The Mark Six Chinese New Year Snowball draw will be held next Wednesday (14 February). It is estimated that the First Division Prize Fund for a single HK$10 winning unit could reach HK$118 million.
Opening Variety Show and Ceremony
Monday’s fixture will start with the Opening Variety Show and Ceremony at 11.15am in the Parade Ring, Sha Tin Racecourse. Financial Secretary of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, The Honourable Paul CHAN Mo-po, will officiate at the Opening Ceremony joined by the Club’s senior officials.
Spectacular on-course activities featuring celebrity artists
- The Opening Variety Show will kick start the Chinese New Year Raceday, with live entertainment from artists Bowie Woo, Nancy Sit, James Ng and Albert Chau (Photo 3). Jockeys will greet fans with lucky messages, while a festive lion dance will bring good fortune to all.
- Midlife, Sing & Shine” singers (Photo 4) will perform live throughout the day underneath Mezza One in the Public Betting Hall.
- All racegoers will receive a designated “Fortune Pen” (Photo 5) and an instant win card# upon admission to Sha Tin Racecourse and Happy Valley Racecourse (until 3.30pm, while stocks last), offering a chance to win a designated 24k gold foil ornament (Photo 6). There are 388 prizes to be won on the day, with a total value of over HK$140,000.
- Visit the Feng Shui Avenue (Photo 7) symbolising luck and wealth for blessings and take festive snaps at the Public Forecourt. There is also a Fortune Windmill designed to bring good luck.
- The Club will participate in the International Chinese New Year Night Parade on the first day of Chinese New Year to celebrate with the community. After the parade, the float (Photo 8) will be on display at the Chinese New Year Raceday at Sha Tin on 12 Feb.
- Racing fans are welcome to take part in “Sha Tin Racecourse Delights”. The first 500 participants who have completed the quiz with correct answer on each relevant race day will receive a designated prize.
- A variety of festive dishes will be available at Mezza One for racegoers.
There will be 11 races on the day, with the first starting at 12.30pm while the HK$3.72 million Class 1 Chinese New Year Cup Handicap (1400m) will be held as Race 8 (4.05pm). Gates at Sha Tin Racecourse will open at 10.30am. A free shuttle bus service from Ching Tak Street, Wong Tai Sin (MTR Station Exit D2) to Sha Tin Racecourse, will be provided on 12 February from 10.00am to 3.00pm.
