The FWD Champions Mile is Hong Kong's leading mile feature on FWD Champions Day, having been established in 2001 as a late-season contest for Hong Kong's mile division.

It is a race that has traditionally been dominated by the home team, including Hong Kong’s Horse of the Year Beauty Generation who won back-to-back editions in 2018 and 2019, and Southern Legend who notched his maiden G1 title in 2020. In 2021, Golden Sixty extended his unbeaten run to 14 with victory in the FWD Champions Mile. In 2022 Golden Sixty added a second win in the race to his record, enhancing his overall prize money to all-time record levels in Hong Kong. In 2023 Golden Sixty stands alone as Hong Kong’s most prolific Group 1 winner after his record-setting third G1 FWD Champions Mile (1600m). There have been only two overseas winners since the race was opened to international competitors in 2005. South African superstar Variety Club blitzed his rivals to create history in 2014 and Japanese champion Maurice was a commanding winner in 2016. The total prize money of the FWD Champions Mile was further increased to HK$22 million in 2024.

John Moore has won the race more than any other handler with eight successes: Beauty Generation (2018 & 2019), Able Friend (2015), Dan Excel (2013), Xtension (2011 & 2012) and Able One (2007 & 2010).

The race was ranked equal 15th in the IFHA World’s Top 100 G1 Races in 2023.

Golden Sixty lands the 2023 FWD Champions Mile in style.
