Establishment of Lotteries Fund
In June 1965, the Legislative Council passed a resolution to set up the Lotteries Fund to support social welfare services.
1975
“Dor Chung Choy” establishment to combat “Che Fa”
The government established “The Hong Kong Lotteries Board” and entrusted The Hong Kong Jockey Club to launch the “Dor Chung Choy”, which later became Mark Six.

Quick Pick was introduced, providing random number combinations both via Telebet and OCBBs.
1985
First Snowball Launch
The first “Mid-Autumn Festival Snowball” draw was held on 1 October 1985, with 11 first-prize winners sharing more than HK$1.88 million each.
1997
Historical Draw with Most Winners
There were a total of 39 winning units for the Snowball draw held on 5 July 1997 to celebrate the return of Hong Kong to the Mainland, the highest number of First Prize winning units on record.

Snowball First Time Exceeding HK$100M with Highest Total Turnover
On 1 March 2016, the 40th Anniversary Snowball draw was the first Snowball draw with exceeding HK$100 million, recording the highest total turnover amount of over HK$440 million.
2024
Snowball will be gradually increased to 12 draws per year
Starting from Draw 58, the Snowball draw will gradually increase from an average of about seven per year to up to 12, while also boosting the First Division Prize Fund.
