Over the last 25 years, The Hong Kong Jockey Club has grown together with the community, creating one of Hong Kong's most iconic and global brands and becoming a world-leader in the sport of horse racing. To mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of HKSAR, Jockey Club presents “Drago Cavallo” to bring creativity and positivity to the community. Inspired by the ancient Chinese mythical Dragon Horse, Drago Cavallo is a contemporary expression of Chinese culture and a symbol of inspiration created by acclaimed artist Simon Ma.
Established in 1999, the National Day Cup has evolved in distance from an 1800m race to a 1000m sprint nowadays, as well as being upgraded to G3 status since season 2016/17.
Unlike races around the turn, the straight track demands that contenders make high speed right from the gate. Given that there are only two 1000m Group races in the season, trainers must get their elite sprinters into top shape to seize this rare chance of a shot at glory.
