S2-4: G1 Yorkshire Oaks

It’s a bit of a shame there are only four runners in this year’s renewal, and MINNIE HAUK is therefore probably going to be a very short-price favourite.

She’s been excellent on all three of her starts this year. She was a good winner of the Oaks at Epsom and did what she had to do at the Curragh to win the Irish Oaks too. York’s 1m4f (2381m) shouldn’t pose any problems and she’s the one they all have to beat.

I think Garden Of Eden should run better than she showed in Germany. She didn’t enjoy the ground that day and the track at Düsseldorf can be tricky. Estrange is an exciting filly who’s shown to be very good on her day. We don’t quite know if she wants cut in the ground or is just a bit fragile, but she’d be a danger if running up to her best.

Qilin Queen won a Group 2 in France the last day but was a good bit behind Minnie Hauk in the Oaks, so would have to improve.

Aidan O’Brien dominates Yorkshire Oaks entry

15/08/2025

The Simon and Ed Crisford team believe there is still more to come from QUDDWAH as he gears up to take his chance in a potential red-hot Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Aidan O’Brien has an embarrassment of riches at his disposal ahead of the Pertemps Network Yorkshire Oaks on Thursday.

The Ballydoyle-based handler is responsible for four of the remaining six entries with dual Oaks winner Minnie Hauk earmarked for the Group 1 at the Ebor Festival, run over 2400m.

Stablemate Whirl, a neck second to Minnie Hauk at Epsom, remains in the field despite having first preferences elsewhere while Garden Of Eden and Bedtime Story could also make the journey from Ireland.

The chief threat could come from Estrange who has progressed through the ranks, winning in Group 3 and Group 2 company this season. The only time she has tasted defeat, the ground was officially good to firm and connections are concerned about underfoot conditions as they chart a route to the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at ParisLongchamp in October.

“But she’s very well, a bit of ease in the ground would be helpful. She’s working well but this just happens to be a year of fast ground. We’re working back from the autumn so we will see how we go and how we plan from here on out.

“If she can’t run then there are some entries abroad we can look at, she’s in the Fillies & Mares [on Champions Day at Ascot] and obviously the Arc later in the year.”

Completing the entry is Ed Walker’s Qilin Queen who beat only one home in the Oaks but bounced back to win a Group 2 at ParisLongchamp.
