{"id":8947,"date":"2022-09-04T13:36:00","date_gmt":"2022-09-04T05:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ctr-campaigns.hkjc.com\/season-opening\/?p=8947"},"modified":"2022-09-05T10:27:11","modified_gmt":"2022-09-05T02:27:11","slug":"hayes-chases-back-to-back-hksar-chief-executives-cups","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/campaigns.hkjc.com\/season-opening\/en\/news\/hayes-chases-back-to-back-hksar-chief-executives-cups","title":{"rendered":"Hayes chases back-to-back HKSAR Chief Executive\u2019s Cups"},"content":{"rendered":"[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=&#8221;8950&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221; onclick=&#8221;link_image&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<p>Looking to capture consecutive wins in the Class 1 HKSAR Chief Executive\u2019s Cup Handicap (1200m), trainer David Hayes is placing his faith in the Group 3-winning Super Wealthy when Hong Kong racing returns to Sha Tin next Sunday (11 September).\u00a0<\/p><p>The first of 88 fixtures for the new season is headlined by the traditional HK$3.465 million feature \u2013 a hotly contested race \u2013 with entries released on Monday (5 September) and are expected to feature the likes of Sky Field, Lucky Sweynesse, Trillion Win and Winning Dreamer.<\/p><p>Victorious first-up last season, Super Wealthy returns for Hayes off the back of a pair of trials at Conghua and Sha Tin as well as minor surgery at the end of May.<\/p><p>\u201cHe\u2019s a very good Sha Tin, 1200 metre horse. He\u2019s always competed well at the top-level and he\u2019s probably been a length off the best,\u201d Hayes said. \u201cHe had a growth on his jaw, it was more cosmetic, it drove me crazy and we basically cut it off.\u201d<\/p><p>Rated 114 after surging 22 points last season, Super Wealthy \u2013 by Epaulette \u2013 claimed his biggest scalp in the 2021 G3 National Day Cup Handicap (1000m) last season, defying Sky Field, Lucky Patch and Stronger.\u00a0<\/p><p>\u201cWe backed off him last season with this race in mind. It looks like it\u2019s going to be a good version of the race with the likes of Sky Field and a few others in it.<\/p><p>\u201cHis trial yesterday (Friday, 2 September) was fair I thought, it was more about getting him to relax as opposed to testing him which we\u2019ll do next week,\u201d Hayes said.<\/p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]<div class=\"videoBox\" data-poster=\"http:\/\/campaigns.hkjc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/592\/news-0904-v1.png\" data-link=\"replay-full\/2021\/20211001\/08\/eng\/replay-full_20211001_08_eng\"  data-wa=\"\" data-themecolor=\"\"><\/div><p class=\"caption\">Super Wealthy grabs the National Day Cup<\/p>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<p>Super Wealthy clocked 1m 10.58s in the trial, relatively untested by Luke Currie.<\/p><p>\u201cHe beat Sky Field in the National Day Cup, he had no weight and since then he\u2019s risen to (a rating of) 114, so it\u2019ll probably be a little bit harder with the weight but there\u2019s no doubt that he\u2019s a proven upper class horse,\u201d Hayes said.<\/p><p>Speaking at Sha Tin this morning (Saturday, 3 September), Hayes watched on as his trio \u2013 featuring Lucky With You \u2013 stepped out for the first barrier trials on turf ahead of the new season.\u00a0<\/p><p>Catching the eye with a surging first-past-the-post effort down the straight, Lucky With You clocked 58.31s under Karis Teetan \u2013 much to the delight of Hayes.<\/p><p>\u201cHe looks like he\u2019s come back and improved. I would be expecting him to perform well early on in the season,\u201d Hayes said.<\/p><p>Rated 92, Lucky With You was one of last season\u2019s sharpest improvers with a trio of wins and a 30-point rating-rise after kicking off last term on a mark of 62.<\/p><p>\u201cHe\u2019s a horse who we have worked out how to ride, you can\u2019t push him in the early part of races and if you don\u2019t he\u2019ll give you a lot at the end,\u201d Hayes said.<\/p><p>A five-year-old by Artie Schiller, Lucky With You has had two trials (including this morning\u2019s effort) ahead of his return. The gelding crossed the line first on turf at the end of last month at Conghua, clocking 46.26s for 800m.<\/p><p>\u201cHe\u2019ll return either on the 18th (of September) over 1000 metres down the straight \u2013 I thought I would try him down there \u2013 or there\u2019s another race a week later over 1200 metres.<\/p><p>\u201cI think we\u2019ll probably go for the 1000 metres, he looked like he liked the straight to me there,\u201d Hayes said.<\/p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]<div class=\"videoBox\" data-poster=\"http:\/\/campaigns.hkjc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/592\/news-0904-v2.png\" data-link=\"brts\/2022\/20220903\/st01\/eng\/brts_20220903_st01_eng\"  data-wa=\"\" data-themecolor=\"\"><\/div><p class=\"caption\">Lucky With You sizzles at Sha Tin this morning.<\/p>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<p>Hayes indicated that Nervous Witness\u2019 return will be delayed following a bout of colic which required surgery in the off season and he is expected to be ready now by around Christmas time, while Fantastic Treasure is likely to reappear at the end of this month.<\/p><p>The winner of over 500 races in Hong Kong, Hayes has armed himself with a fresh-faced team ahead of the coming season which includes Straight Arron and Bon\u2019s A Pearla \u2013 both 2023 Four-Year-Old Classic Series potentials.<\/p><p>Bon\u2019s A Pearla is a four-year-old bay filly who arrives in Hong Kong as a two-time winner in Australia having claimed the 2021 G2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield. She also placed in the 2022 G1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington, finishing just over a length behind the classy Hitotsu.<\/p><p>\u201cI\u2019ll be watching the form out of those races in Australia closely but her third behind Hitotsu was outstanding, that\u2019s what caught my eye, she had a tough run and I think if you reverse the run she might have won, she\u2019s pretty good on her day,\u201d Hayes said.<\/p><p>The beginning of her career in Hong Kong has been limited to just trotting but Hayes expects to ramp up her preparation next week.<\/p><p>\u201cI haven\u2019t been able to get her on the track, she had a foot abscess in her hind foot but we\u2019ll probably start working her from next week,\u201d Hayes said.<\/p><p>Hayes has enjoyed considerable success in the past with fillies in Hong Kong, having trained Elegant Fashion to land the first Classic since Corvette in 1976 with her victory in the 2003 Hong Kong Derby. She also savoured the 2003 International Cup Trial and 2004 Chairman\u2019s Trophy.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p>\u201cYou don\u2019t want a small filly here.
