{"id":12617,"date":"2026-01-09T17:30:54","date_gmt":"2026-01-09T09:30:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ctr-campaigns.hkjc.com\/202526-pv-racing-event-hub-4yo-series\/?p=12617"},"modified":"2026-01-12T15:47:17","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T07:47:17","slug":"hong-kong-classic-mile-field-takes-shape-at-sha-tin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/campaigns.hkjc.com\/racing-event-hub-4yo-series\/en\/news\/hong-kong-classic-mile-field-takes-shape-at-sha-tin","title":{"rendered":"Hong Kong Classic Mile field takes shape at Sha Tin"},"content":{"rendered":"[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=&#8221;12620&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221; onclick=&#8221;link_image&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<p>The picture of who lines up in the first leg of the 2025\/26 Four-Year-Old Classic Series should come into sharper focus after the Sha Tin meeting on Sunday (11 January).<\/p><p>Up to a dozen talented four-year-olds, who could earn their place in the starter list for the HK$13 million Hong Kong Classic Mile (1600m) on 1 February, are in action on a potentially decisive weekend.<\/p><p>All eyes will be on the Class 3 (Restricted) Pak Shek Au Handicap (1600m), which shapes as a Hong Kong Classic Mile trial for several runners and a final tune-up for others.<\/p><p>Top-weight in the high-quality four-year-old-only field is Mark Newnham\u2019s in-form gelding<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/racingnews.hkjc.com\/english\/2025\/12\/29\/road-to-the-derby-invincible-ibis-underlines-potential-as-mark-newnham-seeks-more-four-year-old-classic-series-glory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Invincible Ibis<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>(135lb), who has won three in a row and has placed in all six career starts to date.<\/p><p>Champion jockey Zac Purton has been aboard for each of those wins but has opted to ride Tony Cruz\u2019s equally impressive Beauty Bolt (134lb) in the contest. Hugh Bowman will deputise on Invincible Ibis, but Purton was gushing about the development of Beauty Bolt, who has already won over a mile this season.<\/p><p>\u201cHe\u2019s a lovely horse. He\u2019s got a really good attitude. He just does everything right,\u201d Purton said. \u201cHe\u2019s got good speed if you want to use it. He puts himself in a nice spot and has been very consistent.\u201d<\/p><p>Currently rated 82, the Night Of Thunder gelding appears certain of his place in the Hong Kong Classic Mile, and Purton, whose services are in high demand for the Classic Series opener, might favour Cruz\u2019s charge should he win impressively on Sunday.<\/p><p>\u201cHe\u2019s trialled well. He\u2019s going good. He\u2019s a bit of a no-nonsense horse; he just gets out there and does the same thing. He seems like he\u2019s in good form, so I expect him to run well again,\u201d Purton added.<\/p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=&#8221;12622&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221; onclick=&#8221;link_image&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<p>Another potential Hong Kong Classic Mile option for this season\u2019s leading rider is Jimmy Ting-trained Little Paradise (122lb), who will be going for back-to-back wins in Sunday\u2019s trophy race, the Class 2 Racing Club Cup Handicap (1400m).<\/p><p>Purton has ridden the son of Toronado to two victories already this term and said he is progressing well.<\/p><p>\u201cHe\u2019s another one that has done everything right.
