{"id":6644,"date":"2024-01-17T23:34:00","date_gmt":"2024-01-17T15:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ctr-campaigns.hkjc.com\/million-challenge\/?p=6644"},"modified":"2024-01-18T10:03:25","modified_gmt":"2024-01-18T02:03:25","slug":"fownes-ho-and-purton-post-happy-valley-doubles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/campaigns.hkjc.com\/million-challenge\/en\/news\/fownes-ho-and-purton-post-happy-valley-doubles","title":{"rendered":"Fownes, Ho and Purton post Happy Valley doubles"},"content":{"rendered":"[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=&#8221;6648&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221; onclick=&#8221;link_image&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<p>Preparing to unleash quality stayer Straight Arron in the G1 Stewards\u2019 Cup (1600m) at Sha Tin on Sunday (21 January), Caspar Fownes extended a strong season with a double at Happy Valley on Wednesday night (17 January) to underpin his reputation as the \u2018King of The Valley\u2019.<\/p><p>Fownes\u2019 brace lifted the four-time Hong Kong champion trainer to the top of the Happy Valley seasonal standings with 17 wins \u2013 one clear of overall championship leader Pierre Ng, whose tally of 44 victories include 16 at the city circuit.<\/p><p>Absent tonight, Fownes scored with Super Contented under Keagan De Melo and M Unicorn, who was partnered by Vincent Ho \u2013 Straight Arron\u2019s rider.<\/p><p>Joining Fownes in slotting doubles were Ho and Zac Purton, while De Melo snapped a 58-run of outs when the South African coaxed the best out of Super Contented in the Class 4 Jackson Handicap (1800m).<\/p><p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a bit slow for my liking, but it goes that way \u2013 you just have to keep positive and bringing my family here tonight was a bit of a positive thing to do,\u201d said De Melo, who was watched by his wife Demi, father Dion and mother Fiona.<\/p><p>\u201cObviously my wife is 110 percent behind me on the good and the bad days as well but it was a nice relief (to win) for me and this horse is on the improve.\u201d<\/p><p>Ho sealed a double when M Unicorn finished stoutly to claim the Class 3 Connaught Handicap (1650m) after earlier prevailing aboard Win Win Fighter in the Class 4 Ice House Handicap (1650m) as Francis Lui reached the 30-win milestone for the season.<\/p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]<div class=\"videoBox\" data-poster=\"http:\/\/campaigns.hkjc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/692\/news-240118-v1.jpg\" data-link=\"replay-full\/2024\/20240117\/04\/eng\/replay-full_20240117_04_eng\"  data-wa=\"\" data-themecolor=\"\"><\/div><p class=\"caption\">Happy United takes out the Hong Kong Club Challenge Cup.<\/p>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<p>Happy United, who won the Class 3 Hong Kong Club Challenge Cup Handicap (1000m) under Purton, continued Jamie Richards\u2019 strong run at Happy Valley this season. Richards has posted 13 wins for the campaign with 12 of those triumphs materialising at the city circuit.<\/p><p>\u201cHappy Valley is great, but Sha Tin has been a very challenging place for us at the moment. Hopefully, we can fix that as we build into the rest of the season,\u201d Richards said.<\/p><p>\u201cHe\u2019s (Happy United) a young horse and he\u2019s still improving \u2013 1000m suits him round here and he was given a gun ride from a good gate (barrier four), so I\u2019m really pleased to see him win like that.\u201d<\/p><p>Purton also combined with David Hayes for the pair\u2019s fifth victory this season when Sunny Baby \u2013 originally the first standby declared runner \u2013 narrowly won the Class 5 Murray Handicap (1800m).<\/p><p>\u201cIt was meant to happen. He (Sunny Baby) got in the race, got a good barrier (four) and he got a good jockey.
