Jockey Club Cup
Now a major lead-up for December’s G1 LONGINES Hong Kong Cup and G1 LONGINES Hong Kong Vase, the Jockey Club Cup was first run as the International Cup Trial in 2002. The Brian Kan-trained Red Pepper won the inaugural running of the contest, which was then a HKG3. The International Cup Trial was upgraded to HKG2 status the following year.
The race opened to overseas competition in 2009 and became an international G2 race, as well as being renamed the Jockey Club Cup, in 2010. Vengeance Of Rain, Viva Pataca, California Memory, Military Attack and last year’s victor Exultant, are notable past winners of this race. The race’s prize money has increased to HK$4.5 million this season.
