{"id":6358,"date":"2022-10-12T14:41:00","date_gmt":"2022-10-12T06:41:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ctr-campaigns.hkjc.com\/gentlemens-bow-tie-raceday\/?p=6358"},"modified":"2022-10-12T16:04:11","modified_gmt":"2022-10-12T08:04:11","slug":"panfields-back-for-another-sha-tin-trophy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/campaigns.hkjc.com\/gentlemens-bow-tie-raceday\/en\/news\/panfields-back-for-another-sha-tin-trophy","title":{"rendered":"Panfield\u2019s back for another Sha Tin Trophy"},"content":{"rendered":"[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=&#8221;6360&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221; onclick=&#8221;link_image&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<p>Panfield returns this Sunday (16 October) at Sha Tin to defend his crown in the HK$5 million G2 Oriental Watch Sha Tin Trophy Handicap (1600m), however, he\u2019ll do so with a new ally engaged to ride in the form of Silvestre de Sousa when he lines up for trainer Tony Millard. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p>\u201cHe\u2019s a proven Group 1 winner over here and he should be in the mix in the big races this season, he\u2019s obviously better over the trip and the longer he goes the better for him \u2013 that\u2019s how he feels in the mornings \u2013 I\u2019m excited,\u201d De Sousa said.<\/p><p>Victorious in last year\u2019s renewal first-up under Karis Teetan after claiming the 2021 G1 Standard Chartered Champions &amp; Chater Cup (2400m), Panfield has since been without victory, but De Sousa maintains it\u2019s all systems go ahead of this weekend as he prepares to partner Millard\u2019s gritty stayer for the first time under race conditions.<\/p><p>\u201cHe\u2019s feeling good \u2013 he\u2019s a big horse and obviously he won the race last year,\u201d De Sousa said.<\/p><p>Eager for more big-race success in Hong Kong, De Sousa has been in the plate for both of Panfield\u2019s barrier trials, crossing the post first in each with the latter an eye-catching last-to-first effort over 1600m on turf at Sha Tin in 1m 37.18s on 27 September.\u00a0<\/p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]<div class=\"videoBox\" data-poster=\"http:\/\/campaigns.hkjc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/603\/news-221012-v1.jpg\" data-link=\"brts\/2022\/20220927\/st09\/eng\/brts_20220927_st09_eng\"  data-wa=\"\" data-themecolor=\"\"><\/div><p class=\"caption\">Panfield rolls home under De Sousa in a barrier trial at the end of September. <\/p>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<p>\u201cIt feels like a very competitive race, it looks stronger than last year but the horse is in good health and now we\u2019ll just hope for a good run and that we can perform as well,\u201d De Sousa said.<\/p><p>De Sousa currently has three wins and an exasperating 11 runner-up finishes from 44 rides this season, banking earnings of HK$8.58 million for connections.<\/p><p>\u201cThings are going good, I\u2019ve had full books of rides and the horses have been running consistently, obviously you need to deliver the winners overall but I\u2019ve been making the most of every opportunity I\u2019ve had and the horses have run as well as they can.<\/p><p>\u201cThe Four-Year-Old Classic Series starts soon as well as the better races too, so I hope I can associate with a horse who can take me to the big ones,\u201d De Sousa said.<\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><p>Racing in the famed blue and white hooped silks of Mr Yue, Panfield is a three-time winner in Hong Kong who has collected HK$17.92 million in prize money. The Chilean-bred was crowned Hong Kong Champion Stayer in 2020\/21.<\/p><p>Karis Teetan was initially slated to ride Panfield after partnering him in trackwork, however, the Mauritian was then expected to reunite with Romantic Warrior in Sunday\u2019s test but his return to racing was delayed for trainer Danny Shum and subsequently Teetan has been sidelined with illness.\u00a0<\/p><p>Millard previously won the Sha Tin Trophy in 2012 with the brilliant Ambitious Dragon, while victory this Sunday would be the handler\u2019s third success in the race.<\/p><p>On Sunday (9 October) at Sha Tin, Maximus returned first-up for Millard to finish a game second to Man Star in the Class 3 Chinese Recreation Club Challenge Cup Handicap (1200m, dirt).
